A doctor of technical sciences L.Dugerjav left Sofia, Bulgaria, on December 1 for Antarctica in order to attend the joint Mongolia-Bulgarian Antarctica studies expedition of 2008-2009.
Before this, L.Dugerjav had two-week preliminary training with his Bulgarian counterparts.
L.Dugerjav intends to erect a ger (Mongolian national dwelling) in the coldest continent, and to carry out an experiment on possibility of using the ger in Antarctica's conditions. Members of the joint expedition were seen off by a professor C.Pimperev, a director of Bulgaria's Institute of Antarctica Studies; B.Batkhishig, an Ambassador of Mongolia to the Republic of Bulgaria, and by officials of the Embassy.
The two countries agreed to cooperate in the Antarctica studies during a visit of Georgi Pyrvanov, the President of Bulgaria, to Mongolia in 2007. In addition, Mongolia's President N.Enkhbayar signed an agreement on cooperating in Antarctica studies with Bulgaria during his state visit to Bulgaria on October 2008.
By the way, in the joint Antarctica studies expedition of 2007-2008 was young Mongolian researcher A.Batbold. Dr. L.Dugerjav has become the fourth Mongolian to see Antarctica.
